Timothy J. Wilmott 1980, 1981G

Timothy J. Wilmott graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering (magna cum laude) in 1980 and a master of engineering degree in industrial engineering in 1981. While at Lehigh, he was a member of the national engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi. Tim originally began his career working as an industrial engineer for IBM; however, his career path changed after earning a master of business administration degree in corporate finance (with Distinction) at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 1987. That decision led to 29 years of success in the gaming industry.

Since 2008, Tim has worked for Penn National Gaming, Inc., an American casino and racetrack business where he serves as CEO, president, and as a director. Tim was selected as a director of the American Gaming Association in 2012 and currently serves on the executive committee. His early experience in the gaming industry began at Harrah’s Entertainment, where he advanced to COO. He also served as director for Sun Bancorp, Inc. For his professional achievements, the Lehigh University department of industrial and systems engineering presented Tim with the Distinguished Alumni award for achievements in Industry award in 2012.

Tim’s formative experience as an industrial engineering student at Lehigh inspired him to support the program extensively. He references that the techniques he learned at Lehigh in operations research, information technology, and motion and time study help him to make business decisions. He contributed to the renovation of Mohler Lab, which houses the industrial and systems engineering (ISE) department. He also created the Timothy J. Wilmott ’80 Endowed Faculty Chair in Industrial Engineering. In addition, he has provided his time and counsel by serving on the advancement committee of the Board of Trustees from 2012 through 2014 and on the Lehigh Leadership Council from 2005 through 2014, including serving as chair of the council for two years.

Tim and his wife, Dr. Nancy Barna, live in Princeton, New Jersey, with their daughter.
