Greg L. Butz, a native of Allentown, Pa., graduated from Lehigh University in 1979 with a degree in civil engineering. In 1981, he obtained an M.B.A. from Lehigh.
He began his career in the construction industry during his high school days, working for his grandfather's construction management firm, Alvin H. Butz, Inc. He rose through the ranks of the firm, first employed as a construction laborer, to an assistant field superintendent, to project manager, then senior project manager, and finally vice president. In December 2007, Greg succeeded his father, Lee Butz, as president and C.E.O. of the firm. Butz is the third president in the company's history, following in the footsteps of his father and his grandfather, Alvin H. Butz.
Butz is an active volunteer for the university, and currently serves as a member of the Wall Street Council and Lehigh Leadership Council. His support of the university includes athletics, Challenge Scholarship, the Zoellner Arts Center, Linderman Library, and the STEPS facility. He also volunteers in the community, and is currently a co-chair of the Tocqueville Society at United Way.
Butz currently lives in Orefield, Pa.
