Donald M. Gruhn graduated from Lehigh University in 1949 with a degree in business administration. He was a member of Pi Lambda Phi, the Glee Club/Choral Arts Club, the men’s soccer team, and the Mustard and Cheese drama club. He was actively involved in the Brown and White.
Gruhn began his career with Colen-Gruhn Company Inc., a radio, television, and appliance distributorship. He then spent 45 years in the financial services industry, including membership on the New York Stock Exchange and general partnership in two firms. He retired in 1996 from Benjamin Jacobson and Sons, a leading specialist on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange.
Currently, he is a member of the College of Business and Economics Dean’s Advisory Council. In addition to the College of Business and Economics (CBE), Mr. Gruhn generously supports Lehigh’s Athletic Partnership Program, the Journalism department, Linderman Library, the STEPS Building, Lehigh’s Martindale Society, and has been a key benefactor of the Financial Services Laboratory (FSL). He and his wife Judy created the Judy and Donald M. Gruhn ’49 Endowed Scholarship Fund in 2004. The scholarship supports undergraduate students with a preference for those majoring in Finance.
In 2008, Mr. Gruhn established an endowment for a Distinguished Speaker Series in Finance, thus formalizing his long tradition of bringing speakers to the CBE to address students on business topics. He most recently created the Judy and Donald M. Gruhn ’49 Financial Services Laboratory Endowment Fund. The Fund provides support for the technology, software, and data needs of the FSL Lab.
Don and Judy Gruhn enjoy extensive travel and spending time with their family. They are also devoted dog owners.
