John J. Harmon, who earned a B.A. in mathematics from Lehigh in 1959, is a computer programmer by profession, and considers himself a professional volunteer since his retirement. His community activities have included the Lawrence Township Board of Education, the Mercer County Human Services Advisory Council, the Lawrence Rotary Club, and several New Jersey statewide committees dealing with education. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Harmon also publishes EIWA Newsletter, a wrestling publication which covers all EIWA teams, including Lehigh. He recently published the 3rd edition of The History of the EIWA – The First 100 Years. A lifelong railroad enthusiast, Harmon is a member of the National Railroad Historical Society.
At Lehigh, Harmon was a member of the Gryphon Society, station manager, business manager and music director of WLRN and president of Pi Delta Epsilon. His name appeared in Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.
He and his wife, Elaine, funded the renovation of Grace Hall, the building of Goodman Stadium, and supported the head wrestling coach endowment, the Oberkotter Memorial Endowment Fund, and the John J. Harmon ’59 Wrestling Scholarship. They live in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
