David H. Schaper earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Lehigh University in 1943. While an undergraduate, he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, the Interfraternity Council, men’s swimming team, and residence hall council, among other activities.
Schaper served with the Underwater Demolition Team of the Navy from 1943 to 1946 and worked for 27 years at the C.H. Fry Construction Company in Erie, Pennsylvania as president. He is retired as president of the Stabler Companies, Inc. Today he enjoys playing golf, bike riding, and volunteering his time at the Boys and Girls Club and is involved with church activities. He is also a member of the YMCA and Rotary. Schaper and his wife, Harriet, have three daughters. They split their time between Harrisburg, Penn., and Hilton Head, South Carolina. The Schapers are members of the Asa Packer Society and the Tower Society, and are longtime supporters of the Lehigh Life Income program.
