Karen and Paul S. Levy 1969

Paul S. Levy graduated from Lehigh University summa cum laude in 1969 with a bachelor of arts degree in history. While at Lehigh, he was part of the Gryphon Society and a member of leadership honorary societies Omicron Delta Kappa and Phi Beta Kappa. Paul earned a juris doctorate degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1972 and received a certificate from the Sorbonne Institute of Political Science in France.

A private equity expert and former lawyer, Paul founded investment firm JLL Partners in 1988 and now serves on the management committee. Previously, he was a managing director at Drexel Burnham Lambert, where he was responsible for the firm’s restructuring and exchange offer business in New York. Earlier in his career, he was CEO of Yves Saint Laurent, Inc., New York; vice president of administration and general counsel of Quality Care, Inc.; and an attorney with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP.

Paul is a long-standing member of the Lehigh University’s Wall Street Council. In 2012, he was the keynote speaker of the Donald M. Gruhn ’49 Distinguished Finance Speaker Series, where he spoke to business students about the choices and contributing factors of his career and the state of private equity.

Affiliated with organizations that span the arts, education, healthcare, Jewish organizations, and social services, Paul’s involvement includes being the director of BioClinca, Inc.; a trustee of the National Constitution Center; the chair of the George Jackson Academy Board of Trustees; a member of the Penn Law School Board of Overseers; and a trustee emeritus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Paul’s wife, Karen, graduated from Brown University and the New York University School of Law, where she was a member of The Law Review. She is a board of trustee member of Rockefeller University and the Juilliard School. She also served as a trustee member of Brown University, as well as the chair of the Women’s Campaign of the American Jewish Committee.

Paul and Karen are members of the Asa Packer Society and Tower Society, Lehigh’s top giving societies. At Lehigh, the Levys support financial aid and scholarships, the Hillel Endowment Fund, and Jewish studies programming through the Paul Levy Fund for Jewish Studies in Honor of Dr. Jack DeBellis, professor emeritus, Department of English.

Paul and Karen reside in New York and have two daughters, Rebecca and Charlotte.
