Through their steadfast support of scholarships and academic programs, Karen and Frank (Ted) Walsh III ’88 are transforming the Lehigh experience for countless students. They established the Karen R. & Frank E. Walsh, III ’88 Endowed Scholarship in order to provide students with the resources to attend Lehigh regardless of their financial capacity. They have also given to the Walsh Family Scholarship, the Lehigh Fund and, within the College of Business, the Dean’s Strategic Initiatives Fund and the new Lehigh Business building. Ted and Karen are carrying on a family legacy of philanthropy and Lehigh pride -- Ted’s father, Frank Walsh Jr. ’63, is a Lehigh alumnus and a former trustee.
Ted graduated from Lehigh in 1988. During his time as an undergraduate he majored in marketing and was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He is a founding partner of WR Capital Partners, LLC, a private equity investment partnership and a vice president Jupiter Capital Management, a private asset manager and family office. He has served on multiple public and private corporate boards as well as foundations and other not for profit institutions He is currently a trustee of St. Benedicts Prep in Newark, NJ, The Evans Scholars Foundation and on the boards of The Bayview and Sandy Hill Foundations.
Karen has a BA from Rutgers University and an MA from New York University. She serves as vice president of the Sandy Hill Foundation and the Bayview Foundations and she is the secretary of the board of trustees of the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center. She serves as the chair of the Advancement Committee of the board of trustees for the Delbarton School. Previously, she was vice president of finance for VH1 and director of international business development for MTV Networks.
The Walshes support many philanthropic causes within their community, including the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center, Family Services of Morris County, and the Somerset County YMCA. Through their foundations they support many institutions of learning, including Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Hospital, Rutgers, St. Benedict’s Preparatory School, Delbarton School, and Covenant House, NJ.
Karen and Ted are members of the Tower Society, the South Mountain Society, and Founder’s Associates of the Asa Packer Society. Ted served on the College of Business Dean’s Advisory Council, and he is a Lehigh appointed trustee [and member of the endowment investment committee]. The Walshes have three children – Charlotte, Eddie and Samuel. They reside in Basking Ridge, NJ.
