William S. McConnor 1941

William McConnor ’41 was part of a family legacy of Lehigh engineering. His father graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering in 1914, and William earned his bachelor of science in industrial engineering in 1941. He spent the majority of his career in the oil industry, eventually serving as president of Union 76 for the Unocal Corporation before retiring in 1988.

Through his estate, William established the William F. McConnor '14 and William S. McConnor '41 Endowed Fund for the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering. This endowment will allow the dean to address the strategic needs of the college and ensure its place as a premier institution for bold young engineering students. William was a member of the Tower Society. He was also the recipient of an alumni award in 2006.

William was an active golfer for sixty years of his life, and he had a passion for collecting art, as well as for rebuilding classic cars. William passed away in 2017.
