Charles F. Zell earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lehigh University in 1938. While a student, he was active in student life and athletics, and was a member of the men’s basketball, football, and tennis teams. Zell was a member of the Brown & White, Interfraternity Council, Omicron Delta Kappa leadership society, and Alpha Chi Rho fraternity.
Zell has been a fervent supporter of Lehigh since graduation, along with his late wife Helen Marie, who passed away in 2006. He has served as planned giving class chairman, a member of the National Leadership Committee, and class reunion chair. The Zells’ generous support of Lehigh has included the establishment of the Charles and Helen Marie Zell Life Income Funds, and life income funds for all their children. They have made gifts to the Athletics Partnership and Coppee Hall renovations. The Zells have been longtime members of the Asa Packer Giving Society and are charter members of the Tower Society.
Zell splits his time between Bonita Springs, Florida, and Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He is retired president and owner from SPX Corporation, and has three children.
